Most
of our funding comes from voluntary
contributions from creditors who
participate in the Debt Management
Program. Since creditors
have a financial interest in getting
paid, most are willing to make a
contribution to help fund our agency.
These contributions are usually
calculated as a percentage of payments
you make through the Debt Management
Plan--up to 12% of each payment
received. However, your accounts
with creditors will always be credited
with 100% of the amount you pay through
us and we will work with all your
creditors regardless whether they
contribute to our agency.
Through
our debt management program, you can
repay 100% of your debt over time
(within 3-4 years). In some
situations, creditors will reduce or
waive late fees and interest charges for
participants in our plan, enabling you
to pay off your debts more quickly.
Consumer Credit Counseling of Hampton
Roads works as a mediator between you
and your creditors
We
do not charge you any upfront fees--our
counseling session is free.
During the process of working out
payment schedules, there may be a fee to
handle the monthly paperwork for your
Debt Management Plan.
Many
creditors will work with CCCS to
establish this debt management program
since these creditors aren't able to
work with each individual of their
consumers one on one.
Because ot these creditors limited
abilities to work with each consumer,
they are supportive of our efforts to
work on your behalf. Our
trained counseling personnel will sit
down one and one with you to evaluate
your personal situation and to come up
with a workable plan that resolves your
debt situation. Very seldom
does a creditor refuse to work with us
on these payment plans. We make
every effort to create a plan that
satisfies both you and your creditors.
Our
debt management plan is not for everyone
since some of our clients who consult
with us can realistically handle their
own situations or their individual
situation does not qualify them for this
repayment plan because they have
insufficient income left over after
paying their living expenses.
We
are not a bill paying service and this
program is not for those people who are
mostly current on their accounts.
