Bankruptcy Counseling Services

Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Hampton Roads, a program of the Center for Child and Family Services is approved by the United States Trustee to provide credit counseling and personal financial management services under the Bankruptcy Code.

CCCS of Hampton Roads has been providing financial counseling and financial literacy training in our community since 1982. All of our counselors are certified by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC).

Under the new Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Plan Act 2005, all individuals’ debtors who file for bankruptcy on or after October 17, 2005 must undergo Pre Filing Counseling within six months before they file bankruptcy and then complete a Debtor Financial Management course after they filed for bankruptcy.

Pre Filing Counseling Part - 1

Classes are held on the following days:

• Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. -11:30 a.m.

• Fridays from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

• Every second Saturday from 10:30 a.m. – noon

CCCS of Hampton Roads has a team of trained and certified counselors thru the National Foundation for Credit Counseling.  Our counselors work with you to create a detailed financial assessment, analyze your income, assets and liabilities and provide you with a true picture of your financial situation.  During the pre filing session we will talk to you on all the components of budgeting and credit counseling.  After completion of the course, each participant will receive a certificate to verify completion of the class.

Bankruptcy Financial Management Course Step – 2

Classes are held on:

• Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00 P.M – 4:00 p.m.

Once an Attorney files a bankruptcy case on your behalf, you must complete the Financial Management Course before the courts discharge your debts.  Certificates are issued upon completion of course.

Reminder:  Pre- Registration is required to ensure seats are available.

Note: CCCS of Hampton Roads is approved to issue certificates in compliance with the Bankruptcy Code.
